After almost seven months (oops) we had @[email protected] over again for more Warhammer Quest!
This was the second part of the quest to kill Gorslav the Gravekeeper and hoo boy was it a nailbiter. There are three phylacteries scattered about the map, and when you kill Gorslav if there are any still remaining rather than actually killing Gorslav and removing the miniature from the battlefield, you instead remove the closest phylactery and remove all the wound counters from Gorslav himself and he remains where he is.
Our original plan was to sweep around and try to knock out the phylacteries and avoid fighting Gorslav but that quickly went by the wayside because we were absolutely swarmed with enemies almost immediately. And because this is a continuation of the previous game, the "nightfall" token started on position 9 out of a maximum of 10, where 10 is nightfall and all the enemies flip over to their empowered side that makes them stronger and nastier, so we spent every single turn past the first one fighting souped-up monsters. My dwarven hero Dagnai bravely held the line against a franky ridiculous number of zombies and went toe to toe against Gorslav himself and ended up quite badly wounded, but was given some breathing room by my cleric Cleona's ability to stun enemies which causes them to skip being able to do anything on their next activation. Cleona was also buried by one of Gorslav's abilities on two separate occasions and had to spend one of her activation dice to get out.
On top of all this, each turn there were enemy reinforcements coming in to replace the ones that have been killed, and Gorslav has an ability where if you roll poorly enough on his action table he brings back all ten zombies, which happened on more than one occasion. We ended up splitting the party up, where @[email protected]'s warrior Emelda and @[email protected]'s witch hunter Jelsen risked running off by themselves to destroy the final phylactery so we could kill Gorslav for good, while Cleona attemped to keep things stunned while Dagnai tried not to get killed. Thankfully it worked but man it with just one or two poor rolls it could have gone extremely badly!
