A photo of the unpainted grey plastic terrain from the new Kill Team: Octarius box. It's an Ork settlement and everything has a very Mad Max vibe, it's all ramshackle structures made from panels of metal hammered haphazardly together, there's a big oil derrick in the middle, and lots of piles of scraps of metal and pieces of junk.

Man, the amount of terrain in this Kill Team box is nuts.

A photo of three of the terrain scrap/junk piles from the Warhammer 40,000 Kill Team: Octarius box that came out in July last year and has remained shamefully unpainted until now. They're all just a jumble of pipes and scraps of metal and fans and fuel tank and gears and such, and all are brown and worn and rusty-looking.

Well, they're not going to win any awards, but I reckon that's a pretty decent result for about two and a half hours work. A friend pointed out that I should really just drybrush my damn Kill Team: Octarius terrain and get it over with, and it turns out he's not wrong! I'm going to wait to do the really large pieces until my extra-large drybrush arrives though. (High Elf for scale.)

Two pieces of terrain from the Warhammer 40,000 Kill Team: Octarius box. They're both walls but EXTREMELY ramshackle made from scrap, like corrugated metal and panels and part what looks like the door from a vehicle and so on. It's all totally worn and rusted-out.

Another piece of scrap wall in the same fashion as the first, this one has what looks like part of a big tank (the container not the vehicle) and rather incongruously has several coloured lights strung along the top of the wall.

Got the scrap walls finished too! I tried doing some lighting effects with the globes, with varying degrees of success. This was a little bit more work than the last terrain bits, but not by too much, and it was mostly mucking around trying to get the globes looking decent.

A photo of six barricades that come up to about chest height on the miniature that's standing behind them. They're all segmented and gears and teethed tracks on the inside that makes it looks like they can be expanded or collapsed in width. They're all painted in brown and look like they're completely rusty.

That's the barricades done, and with that, all the small bits of the terrain! Next stop, the full size pieces.

A photo of what looks like an old-style oil rig with the big weight that goes up and down. There's two tanks covered in metal plating of various colours with all sorts of pipes going everywhere, and it's all brown and rusty-looking.

I decided that I should really bite the bullet and actually get started on the large pieces of the Kill Team terrain from the Octarius box that I bought in the middle of 2021. Figured it'd be a good opportunity to actually try doing some airbrushing in a fashion other than a zenithal highlight base coat, and I'm pretty pleased with how it's coming out! I'm less worried about obviously sticking within the lines because a) it's terrain and I don't care nearly as much, and b) in this case it's Ork terrain which is completely ramshackle anyway. It's weirdly shiny because I'm using Army Painter's "Strong Tone" shade paint, which is sort of like Citadel's washes but oil-based and far thicker, and for some reason they thought a glossy finish would be the go. Once it's dry (which takes a good 24-48 hours 😮) I'm going to give it a drybrushing with some gunmetal silver and then will hit it with a matte varnish to get rid of the shine, and I reckon it's going to look pretty tops.

Two pieces of Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team terrain. They're parts of an Ork fort and look like they belong in a junk yard, the walls and platform on top are made up of a whole ton of pieces of metal scrap, like big plates, corrugated pieces, massive beams, there's a door in there, and a couple of empty gas cylinders. They're EXTREMELY ramshackle.

I wish I'd gotten onto this airbrushing thing earlier. It's SO much faster to paint terrain, I'm actually going to finish all of the Kill Team stuff from Octarius! These aren't finished yet, but there's two more identical pieces to go, then it'll just need a splash of colour, a coat of quickshade and then some drybrushing, and it'll be 100% done. And then I might even try to make a dent in the Sector Mechanicus terrain from my old Kill Team starter box from 2019 that I've assembled and undercoated and then done absolutely nothing else with. 😮

Two more pieces of the Kill Team Octarius terrain nearly done! I just need to wait a few days for the wash to dry, then drybrushing and varnishing, and then only two more identical pieces to these and I will be FINISHED!

The same oil rig but from the opposite side, you can see the grasses growing underneath the raised platform that connects the tanks to the big pumping weight thing.

I decided to do some basing on my Octarius oil rig terrain piece, pretty happy with how it's come out!

They're parts of an Ork fort and look like they belong in a junk yard, the walls and platform on top are made up of a whole ton of pieces of metal scrap, like big plates, corrugated pieces, massive beams, there's a door in there, and a couple of empty gas cylinders. Both pieces are on cut-out pieces of cardboard that are covered in a texture paint that makes it look like sand, and there's various tufts of dry grasses growing around the base of the walls.

There we go, all finished. Absolutely stoked with how they came out, and I'm really glad I got some of the big tufts as well, it looks so much more natural. (Plague Marines and Poxwalkers for scale.)

At the back are four parts of an Ork fort that look like they belong in a junk yard, the walls and platform on top are made up of a whole ton of pieces of metal scrap, like big plates, corrugated pieces, massive beams, there's a door in there, and a couple of empty gas cylinders. There's also an old rig thing with the big pumping arm in the same ramshackle style, and scattered in front of these larger pieces are piles of scrap metal and chest-high walls also made out of all sorts of pieces of scrap.

All the big pieces are on cut-out pieces of cardboard that are covered in a texture paint that makes it look like sand, and there's various tufts of dry grasses growing around the base of the walls.

IT. IS. DONE. All of the Kill Team Octarius terrain, fully painted!
