I made cut rounds again, but didn't bother trying to roll the dough into a cylinder and cut it and instead just ripped 60g chunks off, and they really rose up this time! I think I was just mushing them too much last time (they were totally flat). I guess they're just "rounds" now rather than "cut rounds". 😛

Aw yeah, we had a remote team event today, work-paid-for lunch ftw. I got "The Aussie" from Ribs & Burgers, it had egg, bacon, tomato, pineapple, beetroot, pickles, and onions (along with the beef patty, obviously). So good. 👌🏻

Aw yisssss, Lily and I made spaghetti bolognese tonight. Gave it a proper two-ish hours of simmering and it was excellent. And there's two serves left over too!

There's this British historian and TV presenter Ruth Goodman who's done a whole bunch of docos about life on farms during various periods in history. She did one series called "Edwardian Farm" and during it they made a thing called "cut rounds", basically like a savory scone. I found a recipe and made them, and while mine didn't rise much, they're REALLY yummy! The recipe I followed was this one: http://raspberryandchipotle.blogspot.com/2011/07/cut-rounds.html I'm not remotely a person who knows about baking so I don't know why they didn't rise (needs more baking powder maybe?), but they WERE nice and moist inside and not like hockey pucks!

It was our 12th wedding anniversary today, so we went out to dinner at our favourite Greek restaurant! It was freezingly cold so I got moussaka, and had galaktoboureko for dessert. 👌🏻 Irritatingly I had to get up extremely early this morning to go to Parramatta to tell the jury duty people that it'd be a pain the arse with work to do jury duty. Fortunately they just said "Yeah cool, you're excused" and that was that.

That was good timing, I'm in the office today to get laksa with the team and one of our new starters, and this message was posted in our #syd-food-alerts channel. Then about ten minutes later the slider was delivered right to my desk!

I made those rosemary chocolate chunk cookies again, this time I learnt how to properly brown the butter, and HOT DAMN are they good! I screwed up the sizing of the first batch again though (have made a proper note now), and had to chop the chocolate smaller because I'd have run out!

Bread success. I've been doing a bit of fiddling around and the Overnight White Bread recipe from Flour Water Salt Yeast with 25% whole wheat flour and the water bumped to 790mL is seriously delicious.

I went into the office today solely because we're having a team lunch. I'm happy to report that the beef ribs from Hurricane's are still magnificent.

I made chocolate butter cookies! And continued my tradition of fucking up the first batch, this time because I didn't realise they were meant to be rolled into a ball in the palm of your hand. Ah well, won't affect the flavour!
