A photo of a massive statue of... uh... one of the really long-necked herbivore dinosaurs that is a classic and everyone knows, whose name is escaping me right now. It has brown skin and is absolutely towering above the rest of the exhibits and people around it.

Today we walked to the art museum which was fantastic (I took some photos with the DSLR, processing will come later), and then went to the Museum of Western Australia which is REALLY good, and _massive_ and we didn't actually end up going fully through all of it because we wanted to get home and chill before heading out to see @ohthyme. There's a newer part built on top of an older building, and from street level it honestly looks like the new part is somehow hovering above the old, it's such a cool effect. Also, it's not a real museum unless it has a GIANT dinosaur, and this one definitely delivered.

Today we went to Perth Zoo, which to be honest was very underwhelming. We _did_ get to see an orangutan sitting with its arms crossed and a blanket or something over itself keeping an eye on everyone though. There was a also section with a bunch of those little monkeys in it, I don't remember what sort, but they were absolutely zooming around and yelling at each other, which was fun to watch. After that we wandered around the CBD a bit and then headed back home because we were pooped. Today's activities were Rottnest Island and quokkas! You could not have asked for a more perfect day, it's been completely sunny with an absolutely glorious breeze, and we've walked 13k steps/10 kilometres. Currently just chilling while we wait for the ferry back to the mainland.

Met the extremely lovely @[email protected] and their equally lovely partner tonight! We went to the Japanese place that's just around the corner from where we're staying, and while it was quite tasty, surprisingly the place we went to in Midland the other night was better. Final step count for the day is 17.5k steps, 13.43km. Ded.

After yesterday's efforts we had a relatively chill one today. Went to Araluen Botanic Park where there was allegedly a tulip festival, but October is right at the tail end of things and the tulips were looking pretty ratty for the most part. It was still nice to get some nature in and take some photos though: https://www.flickr.com/photos/virtualwolf/albums/72177720320979851 Then in the afternoon we went over to visit some friends from LiveJournal who we've known for nigh on 20 years and used to live in Sydney (w0d and velvetrhapsody, in case anyone from the early-to-mid 2000s Sydneysiders community is on here). He plays guitar and drums and she used to play saxophone and apparently electronic saxophones are a thing and she'd been toying with the idea of getting one, so we're going to make some music together at some point! (Also I say "chill one" but I just checked and I've still done over 10k steps.)

I went down to hole-in-the-wall coffee place around the corner for our morning coffee (the place we're staying has a Nespresso machine but it uses the old smaller-style pods and I think they're stale because it's AWFUL), and there was the BESTEST dog named Douglas there. He came right over to say hello, I gave him lots of scritches, and then when they left he insisted on carrying his own lead back to the car, haha.

Back to Fremantle today, we went to the Shipwreck Museum (free entry, small, but very good) and the Maritime Museum ($15/ticket, larger than the Shipwreck Museum but not very good, and as far as I can tell none of the exhibits have had the statistics they mentioned in the descriptions updated since the early 2000s). The Maritime Museum had a couple of interesting bits about things during World War II, and there was an Oberon-class submarine in dry dock that was cool, but you had to pay extra to go on it as a part of a tour. I also got a margarita focaccia and custard tart from a place called Common Bakery and OH MY GOD they were SO GOOD. The focaccia was absolutely perfect and the toppings were completely fresh.
