A photo of three goblins on wolfback. They've got a distinctly Mongolian feel to them, one is wielding a sword and shield, the second is aiming a bow and arrow, and the third is holding a very long spear out beside him.

I also started on another of my sizeable backlog of Warhammer Underworlds warbands, Rippa's Snarlfangs (which wasn't even one of the multitude of miniatures I assembled and primed last weekend). I wasn't sure what colour scheme I was going to go with so did just one of them to start with, and tonight I started on the rest. The models look great, but man the spear on that one on the left makes it tricky to angle him in specific positions when I'm painting, I keep stabbing my palm!

A photo of four Warhammer Underworlds warbands that have been undercoated black and then had a white zenithal highlight done over that (using an airbrush to paint white only from the top of the miniatures where light naturally falls). The Exiled Dead has seven zombies, Elathain's Soulraid has three armoured elves along with a crab and a fish, Hedkrakka's Madmob is four savage-looking orks, and the Gorechosen of Dromm are three big muscly dudes with one that looks like it's transforming into a demon.

What a productive day that was! Got all my remaining warbands assembled and primed and zenithal-highlighted. I'm getting the new Underworlds box, Gnarlwood, for Christmas, so my aim is to get all my remaining warbands painted before then. And then I really should start at least assembling and priming some of my Kill Team squads, since nearly all of them haven't even been taken off the sprues yet.

A photo of six almost Egyptian-looking skeletons wielding various weapons. One of them is HUGE and has moose-like antlers coming from his head and is holding a massive scythe. The armour plates are done in a dark blue/green colour and the edges of the armour looks like bone and is done in a shiny golden brass, and they've got tatty but really rich red-coloured loin cloth things.

And that's Kainan's Reapers done! I think that green on their armour might be my new favourite colour, and I'm super-happy with how the red cloths came out too. I did a proper highlight on those rather than drybrushing, because I wouldn't be able to get in sufficiently to do a drybrush properly without getting the red on all the surrounding areas too.

A photo of four painted miniatures. They're all elves in various dynamic positions and have cloaks that turn into... not quite smoke at the ends, and the cloaks have been painted this INCREDIBLY deep and rich dark purple colour. They've got some leather clothing that's a deep burgundy colour, their pants are black, armoured parts are silver, and they've all got rich gold clasps holding the cloaks together. The leader lady has a big staff with a bright turquoise crescent moon thing on the top, and she's got a mask on that hides her face that's got gold around it and the same bright turquoise for the faceplate. The bases have been painted in a deep blue then drybrushed with a much lighter blue.

And that's the Shadeborn done! I'm absolutely stoked with these, the colours go so well together and I love the simplicity of the bases, like it's midnight or something.

Games Workshop released new some paints in their Contrast paint line earlier this year, and they've got some new formulations that mean they can do REALLY pigmented paints. I picked some of them up and am using them on the Shadeborn, and oh man, that purple in particular. 😍

A photo of the five miniatures that make up the Skittershank's Clawpack warband. They're all rat-men with dark green cloaks and pointy weapons, and look like they're skulking about ready to assassinate someone. The bases of them make them all look like like they're in a sewer.

Got the Skaven warband from the Warhammer Underworlds: Nethermaze core box finished! Very happy with how they came out, and the miniatures are definitely up there in terms of my favourite sculpts. Next up will be the Shadeborn, which are ALSO fucking awesome-looking miniatures (https://virtualwolf.org/media/posts/2063).

Today's deliveries are a flanger pedal for my guitar setup (can I call it a "rig" yet?), and a replacement airbrush needle! I was all excited to get my Kill Team terrain started last week, and I realised that my troubles with the airbrush clogging and spitting and just generally misbehaving were caused by the very tip of the needle being bent. 😞 I'm not sure exactly how I managed to do that, but I'm going to make a point to be a lot more gentle with it from now on.

A photo of twelve individual Skaven miniatures (little armed and armour warrior rats, essentially, from Games Workshop's Warhammer fantasy world) sitting on individual pieces of round wooden dowel. They're all undercoated black and have a different coloured paint sprayed from around the top of them so it looks like the light is hitting them from the top. In front of them are three Post-It notes with the colour of each paint written in each corner.

I might be overthinking this. (Though to be fair I've never used anything but Vallejo's black and white primer paints so I had no idea what the new ones would look like.)
