After playing that game of Kill Team the other week and discovering that the Heavy Gunner with the Wraithcannon is actually quite good in the current edition of Kill Team (I had constructed this squad during the last edition when the Wraithcannon was hot garbage so didn't construct it) I figured I'd get another box of Voidscarred and try swapping the Fate Dealer (sniper) out for the Heavy Gunner and make a couple of regular Warriors that I can swap out for some of the close combat specialists. It turns out Games Workshop appear to have stopped printing them entirely so I quickly snapped up a box from the usual place I get my miniatures from.

I had a (belated) birthday lunch at our local pub today! Great to see friends, the food was delicious as always, and @[email protected] bought me a present, the new Warp Spider Phoenix Lord miniature for Warhammer 40,000!

A photo of the ten miniatures that are my Corsair Voidscarred squad. They're essentially space elf pirates, all their armour is elegant and flowing and a rich burgundy colour, and they have cool turquoise capes. They're branding various ranged and close-combat weapons, and several of them have brightly-coloured mohawks. They each have a personalised name plate attached to the front of their bases, with a smaller bit of text on top that gives the unit type ("Fate Dealer", "Soul Weaver", "Way Seeker", and other such cool-sounding things), and a larger piece of text along the bottom that gives the unit's actual name, which are all sort-of Celtic feeling.

There we go, the nameplates for my Corsair Voidscarred are done and attached!

They're basically space elf pirates, all their armour is elegant and flowing and a rich burgundy colour, and they have cool turquoise capes and three of them have either a full mask or rebreathers on. The first the has a long sword in one hand and has a bird that's just taken flight from his other hand, the second is holding up a big gem in front of her in the same sort of way that movies depict people holding up crosses to ward off vampires, the third has a hood on and is holding two short blades out on either side like she's just finished slicing someone to ribbons, and the last is kneeing while looking down the sights of a sniper rifle. All but the hooded one have very punk-looking hair: bright-coloured with top-knots and half-shaved heads.

Next four Corsair Voidscarred: done. The Aeldari certainly do love their gems, and I've definitely gotten painting them down to a fine art!

My first Corsair Voidscarred is finished! Now to actually paint the rest of the squad, given I finished my test Genestealer Cults miniature back in January and still haven't done any more of those either... 😅

Definitely happy with this colour scheme I settled on for my Corsair Voidscarred! Not bad at all for an hour and a half's work so far. She's not finished obviously, and I still need to get some more paints to do the highlights with, but I think I'll be able to get her done this weekend.

A photo of ten undercoated miniatures. Their armour is all quite elegant-looking as befits space elves, but they've got a lot of little details that make them look more like pirates. Everyone has a cool cloak, and the majority of them have very punk-looking haircuts (undercuts, mohawks, topknot ponytails) and are wearing rebreathers. Their poses are all mid-action.

The cover of the Warhammer 40,000 Second Edition army rulebook for the Eldar. The artwork on the front is classic Games Workshop, an exquisitely-armoured Eldar warrior standing atop a piece of rock, wielding a sword above his head. There's TONS of warriors in the background and all sorts of tanks and guns being shot, though they're all similarly elegant-looking Eldar warriors and tanks.

Got my Kill Team Corsair Voidscarred all assembled and undercoated!

They're such great miniatures, and I've always had a soft spot for the Aeldari (previously known as the Eldar until Games Workshop did their Great Renaming a number of years ago). They were my very first Warhammer 40,000 army when I first got into it back in 1995, and I still have the Second Edition Codex: Eldar. All the Aeldari are basically space elves, and the Corsair Voidscarred are pirate space elves which is even more fun. (There's also the cousins of the Aeldari, the Drukhari — previously known as the Dark Eldar — who are BDSM space elves. I assembled and primed a Kill Team squad of them back in November last year.)

A photo of three Eldar Guardian miniatures and a Dire Avenger. The Guardians are painted red with white helmets, the left-most one has no washes or dry-brushing and is very plain. The next is richer red but still no proper washes or drybrushing. Next is one I improved by adding Contrast paint and a drybrush, and the Dire Avenger is painted rich dark blue with nice drybrushing and highlights.

I've been an Eldar player since 2nd Edition Warhammer 40,000 but hadn't put together a list for Kill Team yet. I took them out the other night and remembered that the painting was... not great. I gave some of them a bit of a sprucing up, and you can see the progression here, oldest at the left, then I discovered inks, and then the one I added to the other day with some Contrast paint and drybrushing. I did the same for the Dire Avenger on the right but forgot to do a before photo.
