We FINALLY got a game of the new Kill Team in! We played without tac-ops or equipment just to streamline things a bit, and only got two out of the four turns done, but it was really good, can't wait to play more.

My Dreadnaught got, uh, slightly swarmed. (We lost due to not paying enough attention to objectives, though we also didn't actually finish all the turns before my teammate had to get back home so technically it could have gone either way.)

A photo of four sets of ten female heads for Warhammer 40,000-sized miniatures. One set has mohawks and cybernetic implants, one has a selection of "grizzled veteran" headgear like a beret, a beanie, sunglasses, one has a cigar, etc. The third set all have berets on, and the last have no headgear at all.

Woohoo, the replacement female heads for my miniatures arrived today. They're metal but surprisingly good quality, can't wait to get them all painted up. (I think I'm going to wait for my airbrush stuff to arrive before I get stuck in.)

A photo of a Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine, a big heavily-armoured warrior holding a big gun, that's been undercoated in black and has a zenithal highlight of white done from the angles on the top so it looks like the light is shining on him from above. The gradient is smoooooth.

We were over at a friend's place today and he has an airbrush. I had a play around with it, and that's it, I'm getting one. Look at the damned smoothness of this zenithal highlighting!

A photo of the board of Warhammer 40,000: Fireteam with miniatures on it. The board consists of hexagonal tiles and has industrial-looking artwork on it, and the miniatures are five Space Marines (big power-armoured warriors wielding chainswords and bolt pistols) and thirteen Necrons (Terminator-esque robotic warriors with guns but in poses like they're shambling like zombies). There's also tall industrial/steampunk-looking pieces of terrain on the blocked hexes.

We played another game of Fireteam today, this time with fully-painted miniatures, and I added some (not fully-painted) terrain pieces on the blocked hexes for visual interest! Lots of fun, the mechanics and flow are good, but given the mission we did was the introductory mission, I don't understand how the Necrons can possibly win. I guess I'll need to do some research.

A photo of five Space Marines, all wielding pistols and chainswords. They're painted a blue/grey colour, one shoulder pad is a rich yellow and the other is a dark red. The sergeant in the middle has no helmet on and I was able to paint his pupils, and for the other four with helmets on, their eye slits go from red on the outside to yellow on the inside.

Well, I need to wait until I can get some of this special decal-softening stuff so I can apply the Space Wolves logo to their shoulder pads before I varnish them and put the little wintery grassy tufts on the bases, but I'm so happy with how these Space Marines came out! I did full zenithal highlighting, and the sergeant's face isn't drybrushed, I actually painted the highlights on by hand. 😁 And check out his pupils, and the other Marines' eyes!

A photo of a Tyranid Genestealer. It's an Alien-esque creature with a long tongue and four arms with huge claws on it. Its skin is dark red and it's got a black carapace and all four arms have hands with huge yellow claws on them. The base looks like muddy ground with small swampy-looking grasses on it.

A photo of a Space Marine Reiver painted in Space Wolves colours (primarily blue-grey with a yellow shoulder pad). He's heavily-armoured with a helmet that has a skull design on the front, and is aiming a pistol and wielding a huge combat knife in the other hand.

I've been doing a bit of experimentation with my miniature painting! First was finding a good colour scheme for my Tyranids and also using the "Muddy Ground" texture paint and little grass tufts I bought back in October (https://virtualwolf.org/media/posts/1855). The second has been "zenithal highlighting" where you base coat in black and then do a second prime with a lighter colour just from above, where the light would be hitting it. Very pleased with both!

I played a game of Fireteam against myself tonight, just to get a hang of the rules. I really like it! It's pretty straightforwards and nice and fast-paced.

And that's the miniatures assembled! (It's getting a bit ridiculous how many unpainted or just undercoated miniatures I have right now).
