Eeeee, I just ordered a guitar amp! And not just any amp, a proper vacuum tube one. Feast your eyes on this orange monstrosity!

I think my favourite feature (and a significant part of why I chose this one specifically) is that it has a switch at the back of that goes between "Headroom" and "Bedroom" modes. In Headroom mode, it puts out a full 15W, or 7W if you flick the "half power" switch. In Bedroom mode, that's dropped to 1W and 0.5W at half power, but it doesn't appreciably change the actual sound of the thing, it's just not nearly as loud so you can play it inside without annoying the shit out of your neighbours or significant other.

I'm also getting a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 Gen 3 USB audio interface and a Two Notes Torpedo Captor load box so I can hook it up to the computer and do some proper recording. (This page has a good description of what a load box is. I only found out about them last night as I was researching how to hook the amp up to the computer since it doesn't have a headphone jack or line out.)

Beanie's been unwell lately (intermittently throwing up and needing to pee a lot more frequently), he was shivering a bunch this afternoon so Kristina took him to the vet and they did an x-ray and it turns out he's got a tumour in his abdomen so we had to have to rush him to the emergency vet. 😢

He's staying overnight and they're going to do a CT scan in the morning and see what the deal is, the vet said it looks like it might be something in his spleen and they see that being malignant about 2/3s of the time. They're likely going to do surgery pending the results of the scan, then take samples and send them off to be analysed to see if it is malignant or not.

A photo of the four elven miniatures that make up The Shadeborn warband from Warhammer Underworlds: Nethermaze. They're all in very dynamic poses, all lithe and mid-leap. The painting is a black undercoat with white airbrushed from the top angles of the miniature so it really gives a sense of depth as all of the lower surfaces are darker, as they would be if they were lit up directly from above.

The five Skaven from Warhammer Underworlds: Nethermaze. Skaven are sneaky, tricksy ratmen, and these ones are in very dynamic poses as well and look like they're about to attack. The bases are sculpted to look like they're lurking in a sewer, and the painting has been done in the same way as the Shadeborn: black undercoat with white airbrushed from the top so it looks like they're being lit from above.

Well, I'm not remotely confident enough to do actual painting with my airbrush, but I reckon I've got the hang of this zenithal highlighting thing.

At the front closest to the camera are four lithe and elegant aelves, the far side has three diseased Nurgle warriors, and the left has seven gore-covered ghouls.

Another visit from @[email protected], another game of Warhammer Underworlds! Beanie was really good, we didn't even need to break out the treats to get him to stop barking.

The Underworlds game was very one-sided, Kristina won 12-7-7 and I only scored my last three glory at the VERY end of the whole game.

My First Song

My guitar amp simulation software of choice has been BIAS FX 2 on my iPad and it's pretty great, but I'm starting to get the point where I'm outgrowing the iPad for what I want to do, I think. I've bought a selection of BIAS FX 2 stuff on desktop, and it comes with Audio Units plugins that you can use in GarageBand and such. It turns out you can get a 90-day trial of Logic Pro, so I'm giving that a red hot go and we'll see if I can manage to make some sort of song! I recorded some drums yesterday today but my biggest issue there is keeping in time, even with a metronome going. 😛

But today I recorded my first song in Logic Pro, with me playing both guitar and drums! 😁 Granted it's less than a minute long and is pretty repetitive, but whatever. Yay!

Big thanks to @[email protected] for pointing out Logic's "quantize" functionality that will automatically move your slightly-out-of-time notes to be back in time, very helpful for getting a good drum track. The drums were was just recorded straight into Logic then quantized, rather than playing back again with any of the built-in Roland drum controller kits that the drum kit comes with (I haven't even looked into how that's done yet), and the guitar was recorded with one of Positive Grid's "BIAS Pedal" effects.
